The Bongbong-Sara tandem for the 2022 presidential elections is now a done deal, it was disclosed last week.
According to ex-Sen. Ferdinand Marcos Jr., his partnership with Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, the daughter of President Rodrigo Duterte, as running mates had “finished the process.”
Marcos said their respective political parties – the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP) and Lakas Christian Muslim Democrats Lakas-CMD- had agreed to a unified leadership regarding next year’s polls.
Marcos is the presidential standard bearer of the PFP while Ms. Duterte is running for vice president under the Lakas-CMD.
What happens is that this effectively dooms all the best laid plans of Senator Bong Go, who is also running for president under the little-known group called the Pederalismo ng Dugong Dakilang Samahan, in adopting her as his VP running mate.
President Duterte allegedly lost his cool after Ms. Duterte abandoned her plan to seek a third term as Davao City mayor, opting instead to cast her lot with the Lakas which is led by former President Arroyo.
As a result, the Hugpong Ng Pagbabago (HNP), a popular regional party in Mindanao which Ms. Duterte founded, is supposedly in the process of firming up plans to embrace the Bongbong-Sara team, dashing all hopes of candidate Go of gaining a strong following in its area of influence.
