Six big ticket projects under the Build, Build, Build program of the government have already resumed construction to help the government provide jobs and restart the economy.
The six infrastructure projects are the North Luzon Expressway Harbor Link, the Subic Freeport Expressway, Cavite-Laguna Expressway, Bonifacio Global City-Ortigas Link Bridge and the Abusag Bridge in Cagayan Valley.
Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez said that this will generate more jobs and stimulate the economy as the BBB program is expected to provide 1.5 million jobs this year, bringing the total to 6.57 million jobs created since 2016.
Dominguez said that the government relies heavily on the BBB program as part of the government’s post-pandemic plan to restart the economy.
Meanwhile, the Development Budget Coordination Committee increased to P1.13 trillion the 2021 government spending program for infrastructure which is equivalent to 5.3 percent of gross domestic product (GDP).
This is higher than the 2020 infra spending budget at P775.1 billion, or 4.6% of the GDP.
The increase in infra spending for next year will create 140,000 to 220,000 jobs and will contribute 0.9 percentage point to our GDP growth.
