Baptismal party in North Cemetery busted

Republika

Police last week arrested some 23 persons inside the Manila North Cemetery for allegedly violating Covid19 health protocols during a raucous baptismal party for the child of a City Hall employee.

Manila Police District Station 3 commander Lt. Col. John Guiagui said those arrested were caught in the act of eating, drinking liquor and videoke-singing without wearing masks and observing social distancing during the said handaan that was organized by said City Hall employee who was residing inside the North Cemetery.

Guiagui said the protocol violators would be detained temporarily and obliged to pay a P200-fine.

And they would be separately charged with violating City Ordinance No. 5555 that forbids drinking liquor in public places.

But Mayor Isko Moreno said he wants to throw the book against the protocol violators as this is setting a bad example for others.

He ordered the police to file more serious complaints as their actions jeopardize the health and safety of Manila residents, and could result in deaths due to Covid19.
