Baguio mayor blasted for abetting Covid protocol breach

Republika

Baguio City – Mayor Benjamin Magalong – professing he is “only human” – shrugged off mounting criticisms that he condoned the blatant violation of existing strict anti-Covid19 health protocols in attending a recent social gathering in Camp John Hay.

Ironically, Magalong is the IATF’s “contract tracing czar.”

The event, which was held last Jan. 17 at the Manor luxury hotel, was reportedly organized by a local personality for his birthday celebration.

Photos and video clips were circulated on social media clearly showing numerous well-heeled guests moving freely about not wearing masks and not observing social distancing, amid a state of heightened alert due to the arrival of the new, more infectious U.K. Covid variant in the Cordillera region.

The birthday celebrant reasoned that there was some degree of laxity in the enforcement of protocol since all the guests had tested negative for Covid19 prior to the party.

But this excuse was skewered by Sec. Vince Dizon, the country’s “testing czar”, who stressed that there is no perfect Covid test.

“Even the RT-PCR test isn’t 100 percent effective, so ley’s always remember to observe the minimum health protocols.”

The Department of Tourism said it has asked hotel management why they should not be severely sanctioned for this obvious disregard on their premises of rules and regulations issued by the National Anti-Covid Task Force.

Only recently, Taguig City Hall immediately ordered the closure of the upscale La Picara restaurant in Bonifacio Global City for alleged protocol violations during the birthday party of a celebrity.
