Bacolod City – The Bacolod city government has ordered Dito Telecommunity (DITO), which is aiming to become the country’s third major telecommunications player after Globe and Smart, to immediately stop the construction of a cell site here.
The Bacolod City building official, according to reports, said the ongoing construction is “illegal” since it does not have any clearance from the LGU which is a blatant violation of the National Building Code of the Philippines.
Residents of Barangay Alijis, the location of the cell site, had written to the Bacolod City Council regarding the illegal construction work and asked that it be put to an immediate halt.
Recently, several indigenous people groups in the Cordilleras also complained about DITO’s illegal fiber optic cable project going on in their ancestral domain.
This prompted the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) to issue a cease-and-desist order against DITO, giving them three days to explain why they shouldn’t be penalized for failing to secure prior clearance from the affected inhabitants of the land.
