Ateneo sets up own opinion/survey unit

Republika

Ateneo School of Government has established an opinion and survey research unit through the Ateneo Policy Center, its policy think tank.

Dubbed Boses, Opinyon, Siyasat at Siyensya para sa Pilipinas (BOSES Pilipinas), the group will conduct polls that are non-partisan about various issues ahead of the local and national elections this 2022.

It aims to release evidence-based studies and opinion polls on topics such as election voting preferences among the youth, presidential satisfaction and fake news.

Convenor Imelda Deinla shared that BOSES Pilipinas has a promise to the public “to provide knowledge and credible information that can assist them in making informed choices”. These include government priorities, best possible policies to address Covid19 and poverty, choosing the country’s next leader, and more. They will not accept commissioned surveys from politicians, she added.

Surveys will be conducted after the university reviews and approves survey protocols, all in compliance with ethical guidelines. BOSES Pilipinas will be conducting their opinion polls with the pro-democracy, non-partisan coalition PARTICIPATE. Besides surveys on economics and politics, the research group also plans to look into other critical issues. This includes the Philippines’ foreign policy and global issues that have an effect on Filipino lives.

BOSES Pilipinas wants Filipinos to trust their surveys’ results. This is what makes their process being credible, transparent, and reliable crucial, Deinla added.
