President Duterte has ordered the dismissal of ex-Philippine Ambassador to Brazil Marichu Mauro who was seen on CCTV maltreating her female domestic helper last year.
Duterte said he has merely green-lighted the recommendation of a fact-finding body in the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) that investigated Ambassador Mauro, a veteran of 26 years, after she was recalled from her post last Oct. 2020 due to the incident.
The decision of the DFA hearing panel was based on a viral video clip showing Mauro physically abusing her Filipina helper, whom she had taken along with her, in her private residence in Brazil.
During an interview on the Kapamilya channel, Mauro expressed disappointment with the decision handed down by said panel composed of erstwhile colleagues in the Foreign Service.
She said she had no other option but go court as she felt she wasn’t accorded due process by her peers in the DFA.
Duterte said her dismissal comes with cancellation of her eligibility, forfeiture of retirement benefits, perpetual disqualification from public office and prohibition from taking civil service exams.
Mauro is a career diplomat who was designated Philippine ambassador to Brazil in 2018. She had been posted to Belgium and Italy.
