A Black Hawk combat-utility helicopter of the Philippine Air Force (PAF) was reported to have crashed last week in Capas, Tarlac during a night flying exercise killing six persons.
Police said the ill-fated PAF helicopter, which belonged to the 790th Air Base Group situated in Barangay Sta. Juliana, was among a batch of 16 units purchased from Poland’s Polskie Zaklady Lotnicze (under license from Sikorsky USA) through a government-to-government deal for $242 million by the Department of National Defense.
PAF officials said none of the six passengers survived the crash. No names were released, but reports said the deceased included a lieutenant colonel (the pilot), two majors, a master sergeant, a technical sergeant and a sergeant.
Defense Sec. Delfin Lorenzana ordered the grounding of the Black Hawks pending an investigation into the incident.
