40 suicides logged in Pangasinan Jan – Mar ‘21

Republika

DAGUPAN CITY — Records from the Pangasinan Provincial Police Office (PPO) indicate a total of 40 suicide cases during the first quarter of 2021, said Police Major Arthur Melchor, PPO public information officer.

In a recent virtual meeting of all police chiefs in the province, Melchor said that the youngest suicide case recorded was a 10 year old from Anda town, while the oldest was a 71 year old from Mapandan.

A prominent driving cause behind suicide is depression that may stem from or be further aggravated by, personal issues such as family problems, financial difficulties and unemployment.

The PPO has recorded suicide rates from January to December in 2020 with a total of 101 that prompted the local police chiefs to let the concerned agencies and offices coordinate with local health officers and health units, and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) personnel to prevent further deaths.
