229 townhouses awarded to Baseco indigent residents

Republika

The Manila City government, through their “Basecommunity” project, turned over 229 townhouse-style units to indigents.

These new homeowners come from the slums of Baseco, Tondo. According to Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso, he believes that a poor person having something they can call their own gives them dignity.

Each unit is 42 square meters with two bedrooms, a living room, toilet, laundry area, and kitchen.

Mayor Moreno, who led the turnover ceremony, gave the residents a gentle warning to take care of their units and keep things clean. He highlighted the importance of staying tidy despite being poor.

He then shared that a series of city housing projects is under way. There will be another 1,000 public housing units for residents in Pedro Gil, San Sebastian, and San Lazaro.
