2019: Year of quality movies

Year 2019 looks like a glory year for Philippine cinema. Mainstream and indie film producers seemed to have joined forces and connived to produce well-acted masterpieces starring talented fresh faces and veteran thespians.

Here are the new faces of PH Cinema, launched and won acting awards: Elijah Canlas, Gold Azeron, and Jansen Magpusao.

Elijah was named Gawad Urian 2020 Best Actor for “Kalel, 15.” He also got #PPP2020 Special Jury Prize for Performance in a Lead Role in “He Who Is Without Sin.”

Gold clinched Cinema One Originals 2019’s Best Actor and also got #PPP2020 Best Actor (both for “Metamorphosis”)

Meanwhile, Jansen was Cinemalaya 2019 Best Actor for “John Denver Trending.”

More acting recognitions are coming for these and more of today’s #MillennialActors. Congratulations to all of you!

Meanwhile, oldies but surely the best (not just goodies, mind you) were featured and acted in full movie roles, even as main stars.

Anita Linda, born Alice Buenaflor Lake on November 23, 1924, who was a two-time FAMAS award-winning and Gawad Urian award-winning Filipino film actress, starred in Circa before she finally went home to our Creator.

PPP 2019 has also produced a gem of an entry called Lola Igna directed by Eduardo Roy, Jr.

82-year-old stage and film actress Angie Ferro who was named Best Actress besting other nominees including Anita (Circa), in the film which also won Best Film in the festival.

Then there’s Ruby Ruiz who bagged her first international best actress trophy for her performance in Theodore Boborol’s “Iska” from the 15th Harlem International Film Festival in New York City.

Since many of us are still facing the lockdown, we may all try to get copies of these movies and enjoy quality films in the harvest of 2019!
