Three of the Jesuit houses at Ateneo De Manila University’s Quezon City campus have yielded people who are positive for the coronavirus.

According to Jesuit Communications executive director Father Emmanuel “Nono” Alfonso, the total count is at 19.

A dozen of the positive individuals are seminarians, while five are personnel and two are priests.

Four Jesuit houses have been under lockdown in the area. The positive cases were in three of those. Within the Ateneo Jesuit Residence itself, however, Alfonso said there are no positive cases.

In Tagalog, he told dzBB Super Radyo that the positive cases are all mild and isolated. The one priest who was hospitalized is in stable condition.

While priests and seminarians had their movements limited within Ateneo, personnel came and went.

“We have staff in the kitchen and who do maintenance that are allowed to come and work. Our doctor thinks that’s where it came from, since our priests and seminarians aren’t allowed to go anywhere,” he said in Tagalog.

Ateneo has its own isolation facility and laboratory where RT-PCR tests can be processed.

At present, the cases are isolated at a quarantine facility of the Philippine Red Cross located within the Ateneo.
